Viking Lander

This is the engineering model of the two spacecraft that were the first to land successfully on Mars to conduct biological, chemical and meteorological investigations as well as to take pictures. The first landing occurred on 20 July 1976 in the Chryse Planitia region, and the second landing occurred on 3 September 1976 in the Utopia Planitia region. The pictures were obtained by the two turret-like cameras, one of which is shown with its window looking outward, and the other which is shown with its window hiding behind a dust cover.
